How to have more fun at work

In many businesses, this can be a ‘slow-time’ of year, and that can lead to some major workday doldrums. So what’s a fun-loving employee to do to keep their gusto for the job running on high when customers are scarce? Whether your place of employment is busy or slow, mix a dash of fun into your day! Here are some out of the ordinary suggestions modified from the book ‘Work Happy Now’, that will have you smiling, feeling invigorated, productive and keep your mojo flowing:

Take a different route to work.

Invite a new co-worker to lunch – especially if you tend to eat with the same people (or just yourself) every day. Even better go alfresco and dine outside.

Take 1 minute to think about your favorite moment at work.

Implement ‘Cheesy Joke Friday’ – The cheesier the better! Just remember to keep it clean to stay in good graces with HR. I implemented this at my work and you would be surprised how many people look forward to it. They even asked me to phone one in while I was on vacation!

Dress up like it’s a special day

Give a friendly wink and a smile to someone you know – Make a sometimes habit of this one…you know it makes you feel extra bubbly!

Bring in a live plant

Bring in stickers that an elementary school teacher would have – like ‘Your Great!’ and hand them out when someone does something good.

Go out and choose a piece of perfectly ripened fruit.

Don’t wear underwear – or something else that makes you feel ‘just a tiny bit naughty’ Make it your own little secret.

Write a letter to the most famous person in your industry asking for one piece of advice.
